Discreet, chalet-bound and deeply moneyed — Gstaad is the Alps’ most private winter address, with the Hublot Polo Gold Cup on snow, the Sommets Musicaux, and a season of quiet glamour. Saanen (LSGK) is Gstaad’s own airfield for light aircraft; Bern and Geneva take the larger metal.

The route · where attendees fly from

Where most legs originate

Gstaad draws an international and notably private winter set. The densest corridors are London, Geneva, Paris and Milan across the season.

Getting in · the part nobody tells you

A private airfield in the valley, for the right aircraft

Gstaad has its own field at Saanen, but it takes only light aircraft in daylight. Larger jets land Bern or Geneva, then a helicopter or a scenic drive up to the Oberland.

LAND HERE Where you actually land

  • LSGKSaanen — Gstaad’s own airfield, minutes from the village; light jets and turboprops only, daylight operations.
  • LSZBBern — ~1 hr by road, a useful mid-size alternative closer than Geneva.
  • LSGGGeneva — the heavy gateway ~1.5 hr away; then helicopter or chauffeur to Gstaad.

WATCH OUT What catches people out

  • SAANEN IS LIGHT-ONLYSaanen takes light jets and turboprops in daylight — anything larger lands Bern or Geneva and transfers in.
  • DAYLIGHT OPERATIONSSaanen is a daytime field with no instrument approach; late arrivals divert to Bern or Geneva.
  • WINTER WEATHERSnow can close the small Alpine field — have the Geneva fallback and a helicopter or car in the plan.

Gateway to the chalet

Land Saanen + car~10 min CHF 60–150Straight to the village and the chalets if your aircraft fits.
Helicopter from Geneva~25 min CHF 3,800–6,500Over the passes to a Gstaad pad when a heavy jet uses Geneva.
Chauffeur from Geneva~1.5 hr CHF 500–900The scenic road up to the Saanenland.
Plan it like this

The discreet arrival

If your aircraft fits Saanen, you are at the chalet ten minutes after landing. If not, Geneva plus a helicopter keeps the arrival as private as the village itself.

1 · Light jet into Saanen (LSGK), or heavy into Geneva (LSGG)
2 · Car or helicopter to Gstaad
3 · Village, chalet and the slopes
What it costs

Empty leg vs full charter, plus the transfer

A light-jet leg straight into Saanen is the cheapest way into Gstaad; heavier groups via Geneva add a helicopter but take any aircraft.

Route → gatewayEmpty legFull charterPer person ÷6
London → SaanenEGKB → LSGK £5,500–9,500£13,000–19,000£900–1,700
Geneva → SaanenLSGG → LSGK CHF 3,000–5,000CHF 7,000–10,000CHF 520–850
Sanity-check any "deal" against the benchmark:   Light jet €2,000–3,500/hr · super-mid €5,000–7,000/hr · London–Geneva is roughly 1.5 hr.
Add the transfer:   Add a short Saanen chauffeur, or a CHF 3,800–6,500 helicopter from Geneva.

Questions · Gstaad specifics

Good to know before you book

Can I fly straight into Gstaad?
Only in a light jet or turboprop, in daylight — Saanen (LSGK) is Gstaad’s own field with no instrument approach. Larger jets land Bern (LSZB) or Geneva (LSGG) and transfer in.
Helicopter or car from Geneva?
Either — a helicopter is ~25 minutes over the passes; the chauffeured drive is ~1.5 hours and scenic. In poor weather the road is the reliable choice.
When do empty legs appear?
Across the winter, densest in the holiday weeks and around the Polo Gold Cup. Event weeks clear fast, so a route alert is the best way to catch one.
