The off-piste capital of the Alps and the social heart of the Swiss Valais — the 4 Vallées, the Farinet après scene, the Xtreme Verbier freeride finale and a New Year set that rivals Courchevel’s. There is no airport at Verbier itself: the close-in gateway is Sion (LSGS), with Geneva (LSGG) as the heavy gateway, both finished by helicopter or chauffeur up the mountain.

The route · where attendees fly from

Where most legs originate

Verbier draws the same London, Paris and Geneva winter traffic as the French Alps, plus Milan over the passes. Sion is the short Alpine arrival; Geneva carries the bigger metal and the long-haul.

Getting in · the part nobody tells you

No resort airport — Sion close, Geneva heavy

Verbier sits above Le Châble with no airfield of its own. Sion is the closest jet field but a weather- and daylight-sensitive Alpine approach; Geneva is the all-weather heavy gateway with a longer transfer.

LAND HERE Where you actually land

  • LSGSSion — the closest field, light jets and turboprops, ~30–40 min by road to Verbier or a short helicopter; Alpine approach, daylight and weather dependent.
  • LSGGGeneva — the heavy and long-haul gateway; ~2 hours by road or ~25 min by helicopter to the resort.
  • LSZBBern — occasional light-jet overflow when Sion is weather-bound.

WATCH OUT What catches people out

  • NO VERBIER AIRPORTYou cannot fly into the resort — plan Sion plus heli/road, or Geneva with a longer transfer.
  • SION WEATHERSion’s Alpine approach is daylight- and weather-restricted; build in a Geneva fallback for poor conditions.
  • CHANGEOVER SATURDAYSThe Geneva–Valais road clogs on Saturday ski changeovers; mid-week arrivals transfer far faster.
  • HELI WEATHER HOLDSMountain helicopter transfers hold for cloud and wind — keep a chauffeur option in reserve.

Gateway to the mountain

Helicopter from Sion~10 min CHF 900–1,600Onto the Le Châble / Verbier pad — quick when the weather plays.
Chauffeur from Sion~30–40 min CHF 220–380Up through Le Châble — the reliable all-weather option.
Helicopter from Geneva~25 min CHF 2,600–4,200Straight from the Geneva FBO over the passes.
Chauffeur from Geneva~2 hrs CHF 600–900Scenic and dependable; slow on changeover Saturdays.
Plan it like this

Sion if it’s flying, Geneva if it’s not

In good weather Sion plus a short helicopter is the fast, glamorous route in. When the Alps close in, land Geneva and take the road — build the fallback into the plan and you’re never stuck.

1 · Empty leg into Sion (LSGS) or Geneva (LSGG)
2 · Helicopter or chauffeur up to Verbier
3 · Chalet, with a Geneva road fallback held
What it costs

Empty leg vs full charter, plus the transfer

Legs into Geneva price like any Alpine winter charter; Sion adds an Alpine premium but saves the road. The value sits on the post-holiday repositioning legs.

Route → gatewayEmpty legFull charterPer person ÷6
London → GenevaEGKB → LSGG €7,000–12,000€15,000–21,000€1,000–2,000

Paris → GenevaLFPB → LSGG €4,500–8,000€10,000–14,000€800–1,400
Sanity-check any "deal" against the benchmark:   Light jet €3,000–4,500/hr · super-mid €6,000–9,000/hr · London–Geneva is ~1h30.
Add the transfer:   Add the Sion or Geneva transfer — helicopter ~10–25 min, or a chauffeur ~30 min from Sion / ~2 hrs from Geneva.

Questions · Verbier specifics

Good to know before you book

Can I fly straight into Verbier?
No — there is no airport at Verbier. The closest jet field is Sion (LSGS), ~30–40 minutes by road or a short helicopter up the mountain. Larger jets and long-haul arrivals use Geneva (LSGG) and transfer in by helicopter (~25 min) or chauffeur (~2 hrs).
Sion or Geneva?
Sion is closest and quickest in good weather, but its Alpine approach is daylight- and weather-restricted and takes light jets/turboprops only. Geneva is the all-weather heavy gateway with a longer transfer. The sound plan is Sion with a Geneva fallback.
Helicopter or road from Geneva?
A helicopter is ~25 minutes over the passes; the chauffeured drive is ~2 hours and clogs on Saturday changeovers. In poor weather the road is the dependable choice — keep it in reserve.
When do empty legs appear?
Across the winter, densest in the Christmas, New Year and February half-term weeks and around Xtreme Verbier. Event and holiday weeks clear fast, so a route alert is the best way to catch one.
